450 marks in NEET typically corresponds to an All India Rank of roughly 1,30,000 to 1,80,000. For reserved-category candidates that is genuinely within government-seat range in many states. For unreserved candidates it usually is not, but government-quota seats inside private colleges become a realistic target rather than a long shot — and those cost ₹1 to ₹5 lakh a year rather than ₹8 to ₹20 lakh.
How to read these ranks: a NEET score does not convert to a fixed rank. The same marks produce a different All India Rank each year depending on paper difficulty and the number of candidates. The bands here are indicative, drawn from recent cycles, and are for planning only — your actual rank is the one printed on your NTA rank card, and that is the number to use when reading a seat matrix.

The mistake to avoid at this score
At 450 the temptation is to skip state counselling and go straight to deemed universities because “government is out of reach”. For unreserved candidates in competitive states that may be true. It is frequently false for reserved-category candidates, and false in states with a favourable seat-to-aspirant ratio.
Register for state counselling regardless. Registration costs a fee and an afternoon. Not registering costs you the cheapest seat you were eligible for, and it is not recoverable once the window closes.
Build the choice list properly
Three rules that matter more at this score than any other, because 450 sits exactly on the boundary where a well-built list beats a badly-built one:
- List everything you would attend, not just what you think you can get. The
allotment engine works down your list; a short list only creates the chance of nothing.
- Order by genuine preference, including seats you think are out of reach. Putting
them high costs you nothing.
- Put government-quota private seats above management-quota ones in the same
college. Same institution, a fraction of the fee.
