How to read a deemed-university cutoff
Three things make this table behave differently from a government-college cutoff, and misreading them is the most common planning error we see.
First, the cutoff loosens, and it loosens a lot. Between round 1 and the stray round the closing rank moved by more than 1.3 lakh. The reason is straightforward: candidates who hold a Santosh allotment in round 1 and then get a cheaper government seat in round 2 or 3 surrender the Santosh seat, and it re-enters the pool at a worse rank. If your rank is in the 5.5 to 6.5 lakh band, your realistic shot is round 3 or the stray round, not round 1. Planning to be in the process that long, financially and emotionally, is the actual strategy.
Second, a deemed-university cutoff is a fee cutoff as much as a merit cutoff. The reason a rank near six lakh converts here and nowhere near it converts at a government college is not that Santosh is easier — it is that the seat costs ₹24 lakh a year. The cutoff is where merit and willingness-to-pay intersect. That also means the cutoff is unstable in a way merit cutoffs are not: if the notified fee rises sharply, the closing rank loosens further; if a cheaper competitor closes, it tightens.
Third, there is no state quota to fall back on. At a UP private college, a UP-domiciled candidate competes against a much smaller pool for 85% of seats. At Santosh, everyone competes in one national pool. Your domicile changes nothing.

Qualifying cutoff versus admission cutoff
These get conflated constantly and they are not the same thing.
- The qualifying cutoff is the NTA percentile that makes you eligible for counselling at all: 50th percentile for UR, 40th for OBC-NCL/SC/ST, 45th for PwD-UR. In 2025 that was a score band of 686-144 for UR and 143-113 for OBC/SC/ST.
- The admission cutoff is the closing rank at a specific college in a specific round — the table at the top of this page.
Qualifying gets you into the queue. It does not get you a seat, and at deemed-university fee levels a very large number of qualified candidates never convert one.
Will the 2026 cutoff be higher or lower?
Nobody can tell you, and anyone who quotes you a precise 2026 closing rank in advance is guessing. What can be said:
- NEET candidate numbers have trended upward, which pushes closing ranks numerically higher year on year without the competition actually easing.
- New medical colleges and seat additions push closing ranks looser.
- A fee revision at Santosh would move the cutoff in the direction opposite to the fee.
Plan against the 2025 band, keep the stray round in your plan, and re-check the MCC seat matrix and fee table when they publish for the 2026 cycle.
